Sunglasses Care & Handling

Ecochic Shades sunglasses are designed for everyday wear. With proper care, your bamboo and wood frames will stay beautiful and perform well over time.  Following these care guidelines helps maintain your sunglasses and keeps them eligible under our 30-day return policy.

Important Note on Natural Materials

Our frames feature natural bamboo and wood. Variations in grain, tone, and texture are normal characteristics and part of what makes each pair unique.  These natural variations are not considered defects.

Everyday Use

  • Always handle with both hands when putting on or removing to prevent stress on the hinges and frame alignment.
  • Wear and remove your sunglasses gently to reduce stress on hinges and natural materials.
  • Store them in the included bamboo case when not in use or during transport to protect the frame and lenses.

Proper Storage

  • Always store in the provided bamboo case when not wearing.
  • Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when storing long-term.
  • Avoid storing in humid environments or areas with extreme temperature fluctuations.
  • Never store your sunglasses loose in bags, pockets, or purses where they can be scratched or crushed.

Saltwater & Water Exposure

While brief water exposure won't damage your sunglasses, salt residue can build up and attract moisture, potentially affecting the finish and metal components.  If you wear your sunglasses at the beach or near saltwater, rinse them gently with fresh water within 24 hours of exposure.  Pat dry with a soft, clean cloth and allow them to airdry completely before storing to help maintain the finish and smooth movement of hinges.

Heat & Pressure

Heat Exposure

  • These frames are designed for sun exposure during normal wear, but prolonged exposure to extreme heat can affect natural materials, finishes, and adhesives.
  • Never leave sunglasses in a closed vehicle, even on moderately warm days. Interior temperatures can exceed 150°F (65°C) within an hour.
  • Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight for extended periods when not wearing them.

Pressure & Physical Stress

  • Never place heavy objects on your sunglasses to prevent frame distortion.
  • Don't place them face-down on surfaces where lenses can be scratched.
  • Avoid sitting on them or storing them with heavy items on top.

Cleaning

  • Clean lenses with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.  For stubborn smudges, breathe gently on the lens first, then wipe.
  • Use only water or lens cleaning solutions specifically designed for eyewear if needed.
  • Avoid ammonia-based cleaners, acetone, alcohol, or harsh chemicals, which can damage natural materials and lens coatings.
  • Never use paper towels or rough fabrics, as these can scratch lenses.

Adjustments & Maintenance

  • If screws become loose, they may be gently tightened with the included tool.
  • Over-tightening screws can damage the frame.  If you're uncomfortable making adjustments yourself, we recommend visiting a local optical shop for professional assistance.
  • Check hinges and screws periodically to ensure they remain secure.

What to Avoid

To maintain the quality and appearance of your sunglasses, avoid the following:

  • Harsh chemical cleaners or solvents
  • Extreme heat (closed vehicles, direct sun when stored, hot surfaces)
  • Prolonged saltwater exposure without rinsing
  • Heavy pressure or physical stress
  • Improper storage (loose in bags, without protective case)
  • Abrasive materials for cleaning

Craftsmanship & Returns

We stand behind the craftsmanship of our sunglasses. Items with craftsmanship defects, including structural issues present at the time of delivery, are eligible for a replacement or refund when reported within 30 days of receipt.  However, wear-related changes resulting from prolonged heat exposure, pressure, improper storage, or lack of basic care are not considered manufacturing defects and may not qualify for a return.  For complete details, please see our Return Policy.
